Zolowee, Nimba County- On Sunday, July 6, 2014, Internal Affairs Minister, Hon. Morris M. Dukuly paid an assessment visit to Tokadeh, on the Ganta-Yekepa highway, Sanniquellie Mahn District, Nimba County.

 

The Minister, representing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was in Nimba following reports of violent demonstration against the operations of the steel giant Arcelor Mittal Liberia by residents of nearby towns including Zolowee, Gpaba, Mehkinto and Sehkimpa.

 

The violent protesters were led by a youth group identified as the Tokadeh Progressive Youths for Peace and Development.  Physical assessment suggests massive looting and vandalism on the company’s assets and damage of offices belonging to Afcons, the contracting company in charge of construction of Arcelor mittal’s facilities.

 

The Minister along with the Nimba Legislative Caucus and county leadership held town hall meetings in Zolowee, Gbarpa.

 

The government delegation also met with Arcelor mital’s management team in Yekepa, assuring of government’s protection of the concession’s assets and staff.

 

Meanwhile, calm has returned to the Nimba.
