Internal Affairs Ministry and Marketers form common front against Ebola

The Minister of Internal Affairs and Co-chair of the National Ebola Task Force, Hon. Morris M. Dukuly on Thursday, September 4, 2014, met with several marketers, representing 42 markets operating in Montserrado County  at the Paynesville Town Hall.

 

During the mass meeting, Minister Dukuly advised marketers to abide by preventive measures against the deadly Ebola virus as issued by health authorizes.

 

He said the preventive measures by the Ministry of Health and partners must be observed because Ebola is real and is claiming lives of many people in the country.

 

Minister Dukuly told marketers and their leaders that there are people who are still denying that Ebola is here, but that is not true because Ebola is real and doctors, nurses and others are dying from the virus.

 

“we, Liberians are hard to believe because we told people; do not shake hands and do not move from place to place especially where the virus has not reached, but unfortunately people are moving to the southeastern region and the right now Ebola is reported in Grand Kru County; Minister Dukuly disclosed.

 

Minister Dukuly said Government and partners are doing everything to combat the deadly virus, but other people are denying.

 

Accordingto Minister Dukuly, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is working tirelessly to make sure that Liberia gets rid of Ebola virus out of Liberia.

 

Speaking earlier, the President of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), Madam Lusu Sloan thanked Minister Dukuly meeting.

 

The Meeting brought together members of the Ebola Task force including Task Force National Coordinator James Dorbor Jallah, Assistant Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah, and head of the Health Ministry’s Social Mobilization unit Rev. Joh Sumo, and two Ebola survivors namely: Korto Suakollie and Korlia Bandawolo.

 

The Meeting with the marketers mostly women was also attended by other government officials and prominent women leaders including Montserrado Senior Senator Joyce Freeman Sumo, Superintendent Florence Brandy, the Board Chair of the Sirleaf Market Women’s Fund Madam Olivia Shannon, Coordinator of Angie Brooks International Center Cllr. Yvette Chessen-Wureh, Paynesville City Mayor Cvette Gibson, Culture Ambassador Judi Endee.
