MIA to hold Town Hall Meetings on Service Deconcentration

Monrovia-November 24, 2015:As part of the engagement plan to increase citizens’ knowledge and understanding of about the roll-out of the Liberia National Decentralization Program, particularly the County Service Center (CSC) concept, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will this Friday, November 27 hold a major Town Hall Meeting in Gorblee, Compound # 3, District # 3, Grand Bassa County.

A release said the meeting is intended to bring together policy makers, civil society organizations, marketers, women and youth groups, students, drivers’ unions, persons living with disabilities and other categories of citizens.

Issues surrounding the implementation of the Decentralization Program and opening of County Service Centers will be high on the agenda of the meeting.

One hundred (100) participants are expected to attend the Town Hall Meeting drawn all Districts.

The Town Hall Meeting is under the theme, Increased Knowledge increases Participation.

Similar Town Hall Meetings are scheduled to be held in Nimba, Bong and Lofa Counties, respectively before the end of the year.

The forums are intended to be interactive, presenting an opportunity for policy makers, implementers and the citizens to scale the wide range of issues underpinning the successful achievement of Deconcentration and decentralization in Liberia.

Discussion points for the meetings will include An Overview of Decentralization in Liberia, the concept of County Service Centers and how it will benefit the citizenry, Categories of services and Ministries, Agencies and Commissions (MACs) targeted for Deconcentration, etc.

The Liberia Decentralization Support Program is being implemented by the Liberian Government with funding the European Union (EU), the Swedish Government, USAID, UNMIL and funds managed by UNDP.
