
Follow-Up Visit to Duoworgomai Town Amid Ongoing Investigations into Recent Deaths
Monrovia, January 11, 2025 - In response to the tragic deaths of Yarkpawolo Moisemai, 19, and Moryoungor Keleko, 45, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with Lofa County Superintendent J. Laveleh Massaquoi and District #4 Representative Gizzie Kollince, conducted a follow-up visit to Duoworgomai Town on January 9, 2025. This visit aimed to reassure the community about the ongoing investigations and to foster an environment of peace and cooperation.
The circumstances surrounding the death of Moisemai in police custody have raised significant concerns among residents, leading to protests that resulted in property damage. Local leaders intervened to restore calm, and as of January 8, 2025, the situation has stabilized.
Superintendent Massaquoi reaffirmed the commitment of local authorities to pursue justice, stating, “We will ensure that justice is served in this case. There’s no need to worry or panic; we stand with you.” His remarks reflect the administration’s dedication to transparency and accountability during this sensitive time.
Representative Kollince urged community members to assist law enforcement by sharing any relevant information regarding the investigation. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting whistleblowers and the importance of maintaining peace. “We are fully with you on this to the very end,” he stated, reinforcing the need for community collaboration.
Residents expressed appreciation for the leaders’ presence and support. Anthony S. Sumo, the Zogoleemai township commissioner, remarked, “These are the kind of leaders we want—leaders who stand with their people even in difficult times.”
