US Embassy announces deployment of Health Experts to Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia- It was on Sunday, 3 August, 2014 that the U.S. Government, through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced plans to send 50 public health experts to West Africa to help fight the deadly Ebola Virus.
In fulfillment of that pronouncement, Timothy M. Callaghan, head of the team of health experts assigned to Liberia arrived in Monrovia today.
He is also Senior Regional Advisor for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) team in USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance.
Timothy, accompanied by US Embassy officials immediately visited Hon. Morris M. Dukuly, Minister of Internal Affairs and Co-chair of the National Task on Ebola on Capitol.
According to an Internal Affairs Ministry release, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy Madam Sheila Paskman said the team was deployed to support the Liberian government’s efforts toward eradicating the Ebola virus from Liberia.
“The team will provide support in Technical areas of coordination and cooperation as well as ensure CDC step up its response”. She noted.
Meanwhile, Timothy M. Callaghandisclosed that additional fifteen health experts are expected in Liberia.
The team is expected to collaborate with other US Agencies already operating in Liberia such as the CDC, USAID among others.
In respond, Minister Dukuly expressed happiness and lauded the United States Government on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who chairs the National Task Force on Ebola for fulfilling a significant promise in a timely manner.
He described the United States as a historical traditional partner who has always stood by Liberians and the country as a whole.
